Church Convenant

Updated December 6, 2015

With deep humility and gratitude, acknowledging the sovereign grace of God in uniting us together in mutual devotion to the gospel and love for one another, we joyfully embrace the tenets of this covenant as an expression of our new birth in Christ and unity as a local body of baptized believers for our personal growth in godliness and united support of making disciples of all nations. Believing that membership in the local church is meaningful and sustained by grace, we joyfully and unreservedly commit to the following:

1. Make the Great Commission our aim and practice, measuring our success by biblical fruit. Matthew 28:19-20; Galatians 5:22-23

2. Make corporate worship central to our identity and growth, seeing our faithfulness to gather regularly as the body of Christ as has been the normal pattern of believers throughout history. Hebrews 10:19-25

3. Make sound doctrine central to our discipleship, rejecting error and embracing biblical truth at all costs. I Timothy 3:15; Acts 20:28-32

4. Make every effort to support the ministry of our church through joyful, regular, and sacrificial giving of money, resources, time, and skills. II Corinthians 8; Philippians 4:14-20

5. Make every effort to pray for the advancement of the gospel in our community and world and for our maturity in Christ. I Thessalonians 5:17; Ephesians 1:18-21

6. Make every effort to uphold the public testimony of our church by living blamelessly and without reproach in our community and world. I Peter 1-2; Philippians 1:27

7. Make every effort to pray for and support the elders as God’s given model of leadership to shepherd us into all truth, growth, grace, and mission. I Peter 5:1-4; Hebrews 13:17

8. Make every effort to encourage and value the ministry of the deacon as God’s design to support the preaching and teaching ministry of the church by caring for the membership in practical ways. I Timothy 3:8-13; Acts 6

9. Make every effort to advance the biblical portrait of the family by maintaining a passionate devotion towards healthy biblical marriages (the God-ordained covenant of one man and one woman for life) , parenting, and singleness. Genesis 1-2; Ephesians 5:22-33; Colossians 3:18-25

10. Make every effort to support the global purpose of world evangelization through engaging the nations, seeking ethnic, socio-economic, and generational diversity in our ministry. Matthew 24:14; Acts 1:8

11. Make baptism by immersion a serious and celebrative act of the new birth experience; and make the Lord’s Supper a continual act whereby the church celebrates the atoning work of Jesus and the purity we pursue as His Bride. Matthew 28; Acts 2:41; Matthew 26:26-30; I Corinthians 11:17-32

12. Make every effort to cooperate with other like-minded evangelical churches and ministries to advance the gospel, relieve the poor, and care for the widow and orphan worldwide. James 1:26-27

13. Make every effort to quickly reconcile and restore our relationships when occasion may require, following the pattern in Matthew 18:15-20; Galatians 6:1-2.

14. Make corporate discipline a last resort in our correction of gross, public, and persistent sin; as we wisely and prayerfully follow the model of Matthew 18 with the goal of repentance and restoration in the life of the offender. I Corinthians 5:1-13
